چکیده

Arabidopsis thaliana is a small weed in the mustard family Brassicaceae which has become the model organism for research in biology of higher plant. The 130-megabase genome of the plant is organized into five chromosomes and contains an estimated 20,000 genes. To understand the entire genetic system in this plants, we initiated large-scale sequencing project of the Arabidopsis thaliana genome. We are taking part in sequencing of the entire bottom arm and portions of the top arm of chromosome 5, and also the top arm of chromosome 3 along the line of the international agreement of the Arabidopsis Genome Initiative [1]. The entire genome is scheduled to be sequenced by July of the year 2000. During the process of annotating genomic sequence of clones on chromosome 3 and 5, we have constructed a system for high-throughput gene modeling process and a web-based data presentation system.

Large-Scale Sequence Analyses in the Arabidopsis thaliana Genome Sequencing Project: Status 2000

Arabidopsis thaliana is a small flowering plant that is widely used by plant science researchers as a model organism to study many aspects of plant biology. The genome size is ca. 130-megabase and organized into five chromosomes. Estimations of the protein gene number are around 25,000. In order to understand the entire genetic system in this plants, multi-national sequencing project of the Ara...

All about Arabidopsis

Arabidopsis thaliana has grown from a lowly weed into a model organism of lofty stature and spawned a rapidly growing field of research. A wealth of on-line resources has arisen to coordinate the multicenter Arabidopsis sequencing project. The Arabidopsis Genome Initiative (AGI) provides up-to-date information about ongoing efforts to sequence the five chromosomes of A. thaliana. As of March 20...

Isolation and molecular characterization of the RecQsim gene in Arabidopsis, rice (Oryza sativa) and rape (Brassica napus)

In any organism that reproduces sexually, DNA Recombination plays vital roles in the generation of allelic diversity as well as in preservation of genome fidelity. Genome fidelity is particularly important in plants because mutations occurring during the development of flowering plants are heritable and can be passed onto the next generation. One of the gene families that play crucial roles in ...

Toward Pathway Engineering: A New Database of Genetic and Molecular Pathways

The Human Genome Project was initiated in the late 1980s as a natural consequence of the technology developments in molecular biology and with the expectation of new biomedical applications. The project will uncover the complete DNA sequence of the human genome consisting of 3 billion base pairs and 100 thousand genes. In 1977, a small virus genome, x174, consisting of just 5,000 base pairs and...
